This book is about a girl named Ji-Li-Jiang who finds life absolutely perfect. All that changes when Chairman Mao, a communist leader comes into play. That question might be a bit too vague. The Revolution did a LOT to China; maybe narrow it down a bit? Like focus on the Red Guards, the dai-zhi-bao (sp?), fourolds campaign, etc...
